Drop Shadow in Procreate

You might notice that lettering with drop shadow is very popular among artists. A shadow is a great way to add some fun to your lettering art and it is an easy way to make your lettering 3D. In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a drop shadow in Procreate. So, let’s get started!

1. Add text

First of all, we should add text. To do that go to Actions > Add > Add Text. As soon as you do that you will see a text box to your canvas.

Now, you can type anything you want, choosing any font, color, and style you like. Once you are happy with your text, you would need to rasterize it. To do that go to Layers and tap on the text layer to bring up a layers option tab. Now, find Rasterise, and tap on it.

2. Duplicate your text

Next, make a copy of your text – we will use it as the drop shadow.

So, the top text will be my main text, and the bottom one will be the drop shadow. Now, you can also change the color of the drop shadow.

3. Adjust drop shadow

Now, all you have to do is to move the bottom layer a bit down and to the side, making sure that it is visible and not hidden behind your top layer.

4. Fill the drop shadow

After adjusting your drop shadow, you will notice gaps between two layers, making them look not connected. To fix it, select the bottom layer and fill in the gaps, creating a seamless extension.

You can do it by simply coloring a gap with any brush. Or you can use the Select tool – it will provide more precision and help to make sure that all corners are connected.
And that is how you create a drop shadow in Procreate. If you liked this tutorial make sure to check out my other Procreate tutorials.
